3 Simple Steps to Getting a Minnesota ESA Letter Online

Hey there, fellow Minnesotan! So you’re looking to get an ESA letter for your furry friend? No problemo! At Service Pets, we’ve got you covered with a simple, legitimate process that will connect you with licensed mental health professionals right here in Minnesota.

1. Complete a Questionnaire

This questionnaire will ask you a series of questions related to your mental health, your reasons for seeking an ESA, and your prior experience with any mental health professionals (if applicable). Be honest and thorough in your answers, as this will help the licensed mental health professional determine your eligibility for an ESA letter.

2. Our Doctors Will Review

After completing the pre-screening questionnaire, you’ll be connected with a licensed mental health professional in Minnesota for a telehealth appointment. During this appointment, you’ll discuss your need for an emotional support animal, and the professional will assess whether an ESA would be beneficial for your mental well-being. (95% approval rates!)

3. Receive an ESA Letter

Once the licensed mental health professional determines that you qualify for an ESA, they will write an ESA letter for you. You’ll receive both digital and physical copies of your ESA letter. It’s always a good idea to keep a physical copy of your ESA letter at home and a digital copy on your phone in case you ever need to show it to a landlord or an airline.

Once you have your ESA letter, you can exercise the rights granted under the Fair Housing Act and the Air Carrier Access Act. You’ll be able to live with your emotional support animal in most housing situations without having to pay any additional pet fees or deposits. You can also travel with your ESA in hotel rooms without being charged extra fees!

The Healing Powers of Emotional Support Animals

Oh, where do we start with the magical, mystical, and downright hysterical healing powers of emotional support animals (ESAs)?

Emotional support animals are like the superheroes of the pet world. They don’t wear capes (well, unless you dress them up for Halloween), but their superpowers are real and profound. With a wag of a tail, a purr, or even a squawk, they can make our worries melt away faster than an ice cream cone on a hot summer day.

These lovable creatures provide more than just adorable Instagram posts; they’re there to lend a paw, wing, or fin when we’re feeling down. Whether you’re feeling blue or simply had a bad day at work, these cuties will be there to spread some cheer. And let’s be honest, who can resist those puppy dog eyes or a cat’s purring? It’s like having your personal cheering squad, only fluffier!

Their healing powers go beyond just emotional wellbeing. Studies show that they can lower blood pressure, reduce stress, and even improve recovery from heart disease. That’s right, folks! Your furry friend could be the best medicine you didn’t know you needed, and they don’t even need a medical degree. Take that, WebMD!

But the best part about ESAs? They love you unconditionally. They don’t judge, they don’t hold grudges, and they certainly won’t spill your secrets. You can tell them about your horrible day, your annoying boss, or your latest crush, and they’ll just sit there, offering silent support and occasional lick or cuddle.

And while they may not be able to fetch you a cup of tea (or can they?), their presence alone is often enough to make everything feel a little bit better. We’d argue that’s better than any prescription out there. So, if you’re feeling down, remember, a little fur therapy might be just what the doctor ordered!

So, the next time you see your pet, give them an extra hug and treat because they’re not just your best friend, they’re your personal superhero… with a slight tendency to knock things over and chase their own tails. But hey, nobody’s purrfect, right?

Common Questions About ESAs in Minnesota

Minnesota ESA Letters

A housing attorney can advise you on your own lease or dispute.

What do I send my landlord if the lease bans pets?

A written request gives both of you a record of what you're asking for. Name the pet rule you need changed and include any needed proof from your clinician.

Be clear about which animal will live with you. An ESA letter doesn't settle every request.

Can a Minnesota landlord charge extra for an approved support animal?

No. Section 504B.113 bars extra fees, charges, and deposits for a service or support animal covered by a reasonable accommodation.

You still owe for damage your animal causes. The law also requires landlords with pet fees to disclose the support-animal exception in the lease.

State-specific source

What should I check before paying for an ESA letter?

Before you pay, find out who will assess you and check that person's license. A letter-only checkout with no health assessment is a warning sign.

Ask about the total price, too. A later renewal may cost extra.

What if my landlord turns down the ESA request?

A denial may list a missing letter, animal behavior, or another reason. Read that reason before deciding what to do next.

You may need to supply more proof or get legal help to challenge the decision. Court papers require a separate response, even while you're discussing an ESA.

Can I take my ESA into shops or restaurants?

Comfort alone doesn't give an animal the ADA rights of a service dog. Those rights depend on trained work or tasks, such as a dog trained to interrupt a harmful behavior.

For an ESA, call the shop before you visit to find out whether pets are welcome. State or local rules may provide other access rights.

Federal animal-access rules

Will a hotel waive its pet fee for my ESA?

Pet fees can still apply. For a normal hotel booking, an ESA is usually subject to the same pet policy as other pets.

Check the rate and animal limits with the hotel itself. ADA service-dog rules are separate.

Federal animal-access rules

Can my ESA fly with me without a pet fee?

Expect the airline to apply its pet rules to an ESA. That may mean a carrier, a pet fee, or no place for that animal on the flight.

Check before paying for your own ticket. Federal service-dog rules apply to trained dogs that meet the task requirement.

Federal animal-access rules

Can my ESA come to work with me?

Ask HR before bringing your animal in. An employer may consider an ESA as a change to workplace policy for a disability.

The answer can turn on the work you do and how the animal behaves there. A hospital work area, for example, raises different concerns from a desk job.
